The Conejos River is a tributary of the Rio Grande. This is a scene from southern Colorado. It a 5″ by 2.25″ oil painting on Gessoed watercolor paper.

Trail Through Tall Grass Prairie, James A Reed Wildlife Area

This mornings 10″ by 8″ oil study at James A Reed Wildlife Area. The tall prairie grass is about head high and typical of the prairie grass originally in western Missouri. They are burning patches of prairie grass this time of year. There were a lot of birds picking over one burned area just to my side this morning. I’m not sure what they were after, but it must have been some insects.

I made the horizon low to allow plenty of sky to give the painting the feeling of openness.

Plein Air Study Liberty Memorial, Kansas City, MO

This is this morning’s plein air study at the Liberty Memorial. We had a break in the weather today. There is a trace go green in the grass, but not much.

I completed this 14″ by 10″ oil painting in the studio. It’s a November scene from south central Colorado.

Red Barn

I completed this 18″ by 11″ oil painting in the studio. It’s a rural scene. I liked the screen because of the farm fields accented by the houses and red barn.

Plein Air Painting Penn Valley Park
